Privacy Policy

Last updated: Oct 2026 · Version 1.0.0

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how ShotFrame (the "Extension"), developed by Ilias El Barhoumi, collects, uses, stores, and protects your information. This policy applies specifically to the ShotFrame browser extension and is separate from the ExtensionShop marketplace privacy policy.

We are committed to protecting your privacy. By installing and using ShotFrame, you agree to the data practices described in this policy.

2. Information We Collect

ShotFrame collects the minimum data necessary to provide its functionality. Below is a complete breakdown of what data is and is not collected.

Data Collected

Data TypeDescriptionRequired
Settings (stored locally)Your preferences, such as file format, filename pattern and theme. Kept in Chrome's extension storage on your device and never sent anywhere.Required
Usage counts (stored locally)When ShotFrame was installed, how many captures completed, on how many days, and when the last capture worked or failed, plus your answers to the optional rating and Ko-fi notes. Used only to decide when to show those notes. Numbers and times only, with no pages and no images. They stay on your device.Required
Capture in progress (memory only)While a capture is running or open in the editor: its status, and the page title and address used for the filename. Held in Chrome's session storage, in memory, and cleared when Chrome closes.Required

Data Not Collected

ShotFrame does not collect the following types of information:

  • The screenshots you take — they stay in memory until you download, copy or edit them, are never written to the extension's storage, and are discarded when you close the editor, start a new capture, or after 15 minutes
  • The content of the pages you capture — nothing is read beyond what the screenshot needs
  • Browsing history — ShotFrame can only see a page after you click its button or shortcut on that page, and keeps no list of pages
  • Your Google account, name, email or any personal identifiers — there is no account
  • Analytics, telemetry, tracking or ads of any kind
  • Data sent to any first-party or third-party server — ShotFrame has no server and makes no network requests

3. How We Use Your Information

Collected data is used exclusively for the following purposes:

  • Providing and maintaining the core functionality of ShotFrame
  • Saving your preferences and settings for a personalized experience
  • Diagnosing and fixing bugs or technical issues

We do not use your data for advertising, user profiling, or any purpose unrelated to the functionality of ShotFrame.

4. Data Storage and Security

ShotFrame stores data locally in your browser using the browser's built-in storage APIs (chrome.storage / localStorage). Data remains on your device and is not transmitted to external servers unless explicitly stated.

Data retention: Settings and usage counts stay in your browser's extension storage until you remove the extension, which deletes them automatically. The status of a capture in progress is held in memory and cleared when Chrome closes. Screenshots are never stored by the extension: a capture is discarded when you close the editor, start a new capture, or after 15 minutes, and only the files you save yourself remain.

5. Third-Party Data Sharing

None. ShotFrame has no server, makes no network requests and uses no analytics, SDKs or ads. Three links open a normal browser tab only when you act: "Rate it" opens ShotFrame's Chrome Web Store page, "Support on Ko-fi" opens the developer's Ko-fi page, and uninstalling opens a short optional feedback form on Tally (tally.so) that receives nothing unless you fill it in and submit it. ShotFrame sends nothing to any of them, and nothing is added to the form's address; anything you choose to type in the form goes to Tally and to the developer.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party for their marketing or commercial purposes.

6. Browser Permissions

ShotFrame requests the following browser permissions. Each permission is required for specific functionality and is used only for its stated purpose:

PermissionPurpose
Manage your downloads (downloads)Saves your screenshot to your Downloads folder, or wherever you choose. This is the only permission Chrome asks you about when you install ShotFrame.
Active tab (activeTab)Lets ShotFrame capture and measure only the tab where you clicked its button or pressed its shortcut, and only after you did. There are no host permissions, so it cannot see any other page.
ScriptingOn that tab only, after your click: measures the page, scrolls it for full-page captures, shows the area and element selector, and puts everything back afterwards.
OffscreenAssembles the screenshot tiles on a canvas and holds the finished image in memory until you save or copy it, because Chrome's background service worker has no canvas.
StorageRemembers your settings (format, filename pattern, theme), a few local usage counts, and the status of a capture in progress. Never image data.

No permissions are used to collect data beyond what is described in Section 2 of this policy. We follow the principle of least privilege and only request permissions essential for the extension's functionality.

7. Your Rights

You have the following rights regarding your data:

  • Access: You can view all data stored by the extension through your browser's extension storage inspector
  • Deletion: You can delete all stored data by uninstalling the extension or clearing extension data in your browser settings
  • Opt-out: Optional data collection (such as analytics) can be disabled in the extension settings
  • Portability: You may export your data where the extension provides export functionality
  • Complaint: You have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority if you believe your rights have been violated

For users in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including the right to rectification, restriction of processing, and the right to object. To exercise these rights, contact us using the information below.

8. Children's Privacy

ShotFrame is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the extension's functionality or applicable regulations. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will provide notice through the extension's update notes or a notification within the extension itself.

Your continued use of ShotFrame after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
