ThumbSnap is the simplest way to download YouTube video thumbnails. Navigate to any YouTube video and click the extension icon to see all available thumbnail resolutions — from default quality up to maxresdefault. Hit Download on the size you want and the image is saved instantly to your device with a clean, descriptive filename based on the video title. You can also right-click any YouTube thumbnail image and select "Download Thumbnail" from the context menu. Everything happens locally: ThumbSnap reads the video ID from the current tab URL, checks which resolutions are available on YouTube's public CDN (i.ytimg.com), and downloads directly. No data is collected, no analytics, no accounts, no servers. On uninstall, an optional feedback survey opens in a new tab (which you can close immediately).

What thumbnail resolutions are available?

ThumbSnap checks for all standard YouTube thumbnail sizes: default (120x90), medium (320x180), high (480x360), standard (640x480), and maxresdefault (1280x720). Not all videos have every resolution — ThumbSnap shows only the ones that exist.

Does ThumbSnap collect any personal data?

No. ThumbSnap collects zero data. It reads the current tab URL and title in memory to download the thumbnail, then discards them immediately. No cookies, no storage, no analytics, no servers.

Does it work on YouTube Shorts?

Yes. ThumbSnap works on any YouTube page with a valid video ID, including Shorts, embeds, and standard watch pages.

Why is maxresdefault not available for some videos?

Not all YouTube videos have a max-resolution thumbnail. This depends on how the video was uploaded and processed by YouTube. ThumbSnap uses HEAD requests to check availability and only shows resolutions that actually exist.

Where are downloaded thumbnails saved?

Thumbnails are saved to your default Chrome downloads folder using a descriptive filename based on the video title. You can change the download location in Chrome's settings.
