Privacy Policy
Last updated: Nov 2026 · Version 1.2.1
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes how Lineform (the "Extension"), developed by Ilias El Barhoumi, collects, uses, stores, and protects your information. This policy applies specifically to the Lineform browser extension and is separate from the ExtensionShop marketplace privacy policy.
We are committed to protecting your privacy. By installing and using Lineform, you agree to the data practices described in this policy.
2. Information We Collect
Lineform collects the minimum data necessary to provide its functionality. Below is a complete breakdown of what data is and is not collected.
Data Collected
| Data Type | Description | Required |
|---|---|---|
| Free-version status (stored locally) | A fingerprint (SHA-256 hash) of the first file you opened, so that same file keeps opening, and whether Lineform is unlocked, with the code you typed. Never the file itself or its name. Kept in Chrome's extension storage on your device and never sent anywhere. | Required |
| Recent files (stored locally) | The files you opened, with their side files (such as an OBJ's .mtl and textures), name, format, size, open time and a small preview picture, so they reopen later. Kept in IndexedDB in your browser, capped at 500 MB by default, and you can remove them, clear all or turn this off. | Optional |
| Settings (stored locally) | Recent files on or off, background, default 3D units and the recent-files size cap, plus your theme choice. Kept in your browser and never sent anywhere. | Required |
| Usage counts (stored locally) | How many files you opened, on which days, how many opened cleanly or failed, and your answers to the optional support and rating cards. Numbers and dates only, never file names or contents. They stay on your device. | Required |
Data Not Collected
Lineform does not collect the following types of information:
- The drawings and models you open — they are read and drawn inside your browser, with no upload and no conversion server
- The content of the pages you visit — Lineform reads a page only after you click its button, shortcut or menu item there, and then only the item you pick
- Browsing history — Lineform keeps no list of pages
- Your Google account, Google Drive, name, email or any personal identifiers — there is no account
- Analytics, telemetry, crash reports, tracking or ads of any kind
- Data sent to any server — the only network requests are downloading a file from a link you choose to open, after you allow that site, and reading the one model or drawing you pick on the page you are on
3. How We Use Your Information
Collected data is used exclusively for the following purposes:
- Providing and maintaining the core functionality of Lineform
- Saving your preferences and settings for a personalized experience
- Improving the extension through anonymous usage analytics (when you opt in)
- Diagnosing and fixing bugs or technical issues
We do not use your data for advertising, user profiling, or any purpose unrelated to the functionality of Lineform.
4. Data Storage and Security
Lineform stores data locally in your browser using the browser's built-in storage APIs (chrome.storage / localStorage). Data remains on your device and is not transmitted to external servers unless explicitly stated.
Data retention: Recent files stay in your browser's IndexedDB until you remove them, clear all, turn off "Keep recent files", the size cap pushes them out (oldest first), or you uninstall. Settings and usage counts stay until you change them or uninstall, which deletes them automatically. PNGs you save are ordinary files in your Downloads folder.
5. Third-Party Data Sharing
None. Lineform has no server and uses no analytics, SDKs or ads. Three links open a normal browser tab only when you act: "Rate it" opens Lineform's Chrome Web Store page, "Support" opens the developer's Ko-fi page, and uninstalling opens a short optional feedback form on Tally (tally.so) that receives nothing unless you fill it in and submit it. Lineform sends nothing to any of them, and nothing is added to the form's address; anything you choose to type in the form goes to Tally and to the developer.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party for their marketing or commercial purposes.
6. Browser Permissions
Lineform requests the following browser permissions. Each permission is required for specific functionality and is used only for its stated purpose:
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Storage | Small counters and answers for the optional support and rating cards. Recent files and viewer settings are kept in IndexedDB on your computer. |
| Unlimited storage (unlimitedStorage) | Keeps recent files whole so they reopen without the original, and stops Chrome clearing them when disk space runs low. You set a cap (500 MB by default) and can turn recent files off. |
| Context menu (contextMenus) | Adds "Open in Lineform" to links that look like CAD or 3D files, and "Open the 3D or 2D on this page". |
| Open local files (declarativeNetRequestWithHostAccess, file:///*) | Sends a CAD file to the viewer instead of Chrome downloading it or showing raw text. It matches only local files, when you turn on "Allow access to file URLs" for Lineform, and CAD file links on sites you allowed. Lineform never reads any other local file. |
| Current tab, when you ask (activeTab, scripting) | After you click the toolbar button, press Alt+Shift+D or use the right-click item, Lineform gets temporary access to that one tab to list the 3D models and drawings on it, and reads only the one you pick. Never other tabs, never in the background. |
| Site access, optional (http and https) | Never asked at install. When you choose "Open in Lineform" on a link, Chrome asks for that one site, and Lineform downloads only that file. You can remove the site any time in chrome://extensions. |
No permissions are used to collect data beyond what is described in Section 2 of this policy. We follow the principle of least privilege and only request permissions essential for the extension's functionality.
7. Your Rights
You have the following rights regarding your data:
- Access: You can view all data stored by the extension through your browser's extension storage inspector
- Deletion: You can delete all stored data by uninstalling the extension or clearing extension data in your browser settings
- Opt-out: Optional data collection (such as analytics) can be disabled in the extension settings
- Portability: You may export your data where the extension provides export functionality
- Complaint: You have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority if you believe your rights have been violated

8. Children's Privacy

9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the extension's functionality or applicable regulations. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will provide notice through the extension's update notes or a notification within the extension itself.
Your continued use of Lineform after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
